About Our School

US Hwa Rang Kwan is a kumdo dedicated martial art institute in the Washington DC metropolitan Area. Our school has three locations - Fairfax and Chantilly in Virginia, and in Columbia, Maryland. Our school is the only school affiliated with and certified by the Korea Kumdo Association in the area. We are also affiliated with GWMKF (Greater Washington Metropolitan Kumdo Federation), a subdivision of Korea Kumdo Association.

US Hwa Rang Kwan was founded by Master Soon C. Chang in the early 90s, and strived in the United States by achieving outstanding perfomances at all major tournaments. Our school aims to achieve high performances but more importantly, sets higher priorites in development of a healthy mental and spiritual state in our members. We emphasize respect, courtesy, and humbleness at our school and through Kumdo we have established a family-like atmosphere. US Hwa Rang Kwan has become more than just a martial art school. With more than 18 years of tradition and history we have established a community of teamwork and leadership and we hope to carry this tradition over the next generations.

All of our schools have wooden floors designed especially for Kumdo. Unlike other schools and clubs, we do not utilize a general sporting wooden floor such as basketball or racketball courts. Our floors are designed and built specifically for Kumdo to minimize injury and maximize training.
